Off page (Last edited: Thursday, 2 August 2007, 06:42 PM)
An SEO term we now find outdated in terms of how you think about the process. It refers to the factors (items or actions) that are external to the web page you are trying to rank that can help (or hinder) that page from ranking on a search engine. Most commonly 'off page factors' refer to the links pointing to your specific web page. These links are often referred to as backlinks.
The debate over whether off page factors or on page factors produce the biggest gains in SEO continues to be waged even though the debate shows how most people really don't understand the current climate of SEO. Refer to our section on SEO Foundations for a fuller discussion of how we look at SEO.
